Romantic Couple Photography & Engagement Photoshoot
There are few photoshoots in my life that can put a smile to my face as quickly as the images I took in this paricular engagement shoot.
Lori approached me about having photographs done for herself and her fiancé.
When my clients are unsure of what to wear, I typically tell them to aim for clothes that they love - that they feel comfortable in and are some of their favourite pieces in their closet - but also to try to aim for clothes that they feel are as timeless as possible.
Lori nailed it, adding an element of matching with her white dress and his white top, but without being overly matching - styling her fiancé in a pair of timeless blue jeans was a genius move, both in terms of comfort and classic effortlessness. She really nailed the looks here.
They showed up on the day just a little nervous and feeling a touch self-conscious - as who wouldn't be in front of a camera, being the center of attention for an entire shoot.
I started them off taking pictures of the gorgeous couple in more staged poses, attempting to give them a little time to relax.
But a few smooches into the photoshoot, and the anxiety barrier was quickly broken.
Pose after pose after pose, each one became more natural than the last, as they fell into the comfort of their relationship more and more quickly between each shot.
Lori was full of ideas she wanted me to shoot, being inspired by the natural surroundings, an interesting tree here, a park bench there. Whatever struck her eye we followed toward, and I staged them, telling them how to sit or stand, then waited until they forgot - for a brief moment - about my existence.
There were so many gorgeous shots of this couple, I had trouble narrowing the final cut down. Too many lovely glances shared between the two, sets of perfect, lovely eyes with longing looks at the other that made it obvious these two were destined to be together.
There's not much more beautiful than love shared between two people like this, and sadly, it's rarely ever captured because it can be so hard to forget yourself in the moment when a camera is staring you straight in the face.
At the end of the photoshoot, Lori stressed she wanted some photographs around the engagement ring. So I switched gears and shifted couple photoshoot to a focus on the engagement aspect.
I personally cannot imagine a more lovely keepsake of that special moment in their lives.
It really makes me wish I had taken the time to do an engagement photoshoot for myself and my husband back when we were engaged. The hecticness before a wedding made me feel like there was no time.
But thankfully, Lori did what was in her power to make it happen - because without that type of prioritization, these stunning romantic photographs would never have came to be. And that inarguably would have been a monumental shame.
