Cascais Profile Photography

There are many different styles of photography that don't lend themselves quite well to use in profile settings.

Whether they are dating profiles, professional profiles, interview and application profiles, wedding profiles, or otherwise, the goal should be seeing photographs of yourself that reflect the positive aspects of you, without being too abstract, conceptual, flowery, or poetic in the way that are presented.

While types of photography that are more flowery and romantic, more fantasy-based and almost storybook like are some of my favourites, it's clear to see why they don't quite fit in the context of profile photography.

There is room for glamour and cinema and elements of fashion and drama in general, but these should be just a little subdued, more subtle and covert, more fitting in a real world scenario.

That being said, the photographs should absolutely also show off your personality - a genuine smile, the lifelike animations to your being, the authenticity of who you are when you are not trying to pose before a camera.

Being relaxed and at ease helps considerably with this, but not being able to get to that point in a photoshoot is a relatively common issue.

It's hard to forget you're being photographed if you're not in the right setting, if you don't have the right environment and photographer who lets you forget where you are and the awkwardness of what is happening long enough to take the perfect shot, one where you are at ease and letting your genuine self shine.

And yes, it's entirely possible to be looking directly at the camera when you have these moments - it just requires a level of comfort that is not easy for most photographers to obtain with those who are not typically used to being photographed, or photographed in such an unusual setting.

The goal, at the end of the day is to strike the perfect balance between more visually interesting cinematic, poetic, and impact-based emotive photography, and the down-to-earth realism of what you are like in day to day life in the world.

This coupled with an authentic expression of your being aided by a relaxed atmosphere that allows that side of you to come out right when the button on the camera is clicked, is what I think makes for the perfect profile picture.

A difficult thing to attain, but it is perfectly within the realms of possibility.
