Cascais Portrait Photography
There is beauty in all of us, and for some reason, this beauty is often such a difficult thing to capture in the form of a photograph.
So few images truly capture the essence and spirit of a person, the way they light up when they are unequivocally happy in the moment, the way they radiate when they talk about their friends, their family, the work they love, the things they enjoy.
I spent my life frustrated with how poorly I photographed - always jealous of those whose beauty was so easily captured in a picture. I never understood that - for me - being comfortable, being myself in front of a camera was very difficult. And sometimes that's what it takes to let the camera see the truly beautiful you.
In my portraits, I make it my mission to look for this beauty. There is plenty of beauty that is staged, where you say, "cheese" and smile for the camera and have a lovely shot.
But there is even more beauty, I feel, in the moment when you can finally relax in front of the camera, be yourself, feel your anxiety and nervousness and stress over the pictures not often turning out just right - drop away - and instead be replaced by the beauty everyone else sees when they look at you in person.
My portraits try to uncover this beauty in every session, one that is in all of us, young or old, man or woman, big or small, it doesn't matter who the person is - it is there. And I hope that in seeing yourself reflected through my lens you can get a step closer toward seeing your true beauty in a way that others see for themselves every day.
Not what you see in the mirror, not what you see in snapshots and posed pictures of yourself, but a beauty that's deeper within.
The essence, the soul, the true beauty of you.
